The Path to Pasco - Day 1 - Iowa City to Norfolk to Cheyenne

It is time to make the flight to Pasco WA - 2013 Start City - from Iowa City. Life has gotten a little crazier on the cusp of making this flight. After working in the garden the week before, I've come down wth a bad case of poison ivy that needs some medical attention - my right arm is looking pretty nasty. Drugs have been obtained, and it's wrapped like a mummy.

Tue Jun 11 - Leg 1 is a flight to Cheyenne WY (CYS) with a stop in Norfolk NE (OFK). Great airport in Norfolk - Barnstormers Restaurant on the field in the old terminal building.  It will make a great en route stop next year. We're meeting Sue Jones in CYS to fly tandem to PSC, and she has patiently waited for us to catch up to her after her flight from the Austin (as in TX) area. I've been looking forward to making my first "tandem" flight. We land at CYS about 9 pm, and Sue is there with the crew car picking us up planeside on the ramp and giving us a ride to our hotel.

I must apologize for the lack of pictures on this leg, but the time was well spent to work with Lynn to familiarize her with my aircraft and to talk about the upcoming race logistics a bit. I can only describe a person's first Air Race Classic as sensory overload. It's a rush from start to finish, and the race is over too soon in a hyper-blur.

I crash about 1 am for a 5 am wake-up...we're off to the airport to start Leg 2...
